Yuletide 2021 letter
Dear Yuletide Author:
Thank you for taking the time to write a fic for me, especially in these trying times. I have some thoughts about these fandoms below, but they are only suggestions and please feel free to write where the muse takes you.
DNWs: ...coffeeshop AUs? Canon pairings meeting in childhood (unless they did grow up together). I don't have many strong DNWs, to be frank; so long the actions or descriptions are plausible in the overall logic/context of the fic, I'm okay with them.
(1) HiStory3 - Trapped
Meng Shao Fei
We've seen much of Tang Yi's past in the series, but very little of Meng Shao Fei's past. There was a mention somewhere in the BTS that his parents are dead, but I had the impression that it was a bit of ad-libbing by the actor. Anyway, I would love to read a fic that pulls up a bit (or a lot) of MSF's past, e.g. where are his family and does he ever bring Tang Yi to see them? It doesn't have to be a childhood fic (see DNW) but it can be a situation when MSF is reminded of his past, in his present life with Tang Yi. Or it could be Tang Yi learning (maybe from Zhao Zi or via Jack's investigation) how MSF's past/childhood is super-boring/normal OR it was actually super dramatic/traumatic and how it adds to his understanding of MSF.
If the above is a bit too introspective, please feel free to write an action or romantic/sexy scene - I am totally fine with that. ^__^
(2) Thousand Autumns
Shen Qiao, Yan Wushi
My newest fandom and it is adorable beyond words. I mean, the novel and the donghua are great, but I really, really love the Mini Theater episodes. I would love it if someone wrote a fic riffing off one of the episodes, e.g. Yan Wushi being especially catty or sarcastic, or one of those where Shen Qiao made some knowing remarks about Yan Wushi or even Huanyue's habit of scattering flower petals everywhere.
If those are not your taste, it would be fun to read a fic that drew on YWS's past, e.g., referring to his own family background, or when he first joined He Huan sect, or even his duel with Qi Fengge, and how this affects the way he is with Shen Qiao. Or it could be Shen Qiao stumbling upon a souvenir of YWS's past, maybe a martial arts manual, or clothes or a family letter, and gaining a small insight into YWS's habits/character.
(3) Nirvana in Fire
Mei Changsu, Lin Chen
I'm on a nostalgic kick, I guess. I've always wondered how Mei Changsu and Lin Chen got along in those twelve years when Mei Changsu was first at Langya and later with Jiangzuo. We know they've become firm friends (or even more?) through the years, but what made Lin Chen decide that MCS was such a worthy friend, to the extent of doing so much for him, even though he knew that MCS was bent on going back to Jinlin, possibly to his death? And what how did MCS come to trust LC that much?
(4) HiStory3 - Make Our Days Count
Xiang Haoting
I strongly suggest that any fic of MODC must ignore the incident we must not speak of. There's simply no way to give Xiang Haoting a decent future otherwise. This is a request for Xiang Haoting in the future - I mean, I'm also ok if you decide to account for that Incident but then I know the fic will be sad and angsty (which I am also fine with) - and if we do ignore the Incident, please write a sweet, possibly rather mushy fic of future!Xiang Haoting doing something special for Yu Xigu. Yu Xigu does not have to appear in the fic itself.
DNWs for this fandom specifically: no reincarnation fic, and no scenario where Xiang Haoting falls in love with another person who reminds him of Yu Xigu, because that's just unnecessarily mocking. Not saying that XHT can't find love again, but it will not be another Yu Xigu. I'll even take a fic of an older or middle-aged XHT confessing his love and loss to his current partner, and finally finding closure. But not another Yu Xigu.
ETA: After re-reading this it feels like I heartily dislike Yu Xigu, which is absolutely not true. His character in canon is especially intriguing - even more than Xiang Haoting, really - we got the stereotypical orphan character, but at the same time he's got all his dreams of the future while fighting his attraction to Xiang Haoting and when he finally falls in love, he falls like a ton of bricks, so overwhelmed by his happiness that it's heart-breaking. Still, because I'm looking for future!Xiang Haoting fic, so it would be really unfair if I were to... I dunno how to put it, regard him as some kind of prop to Xiang Haoting's future happiness? One day someone will write a cool AU where both of them are living their best lives together. Right?
