Hikago

Still in my top three to five--depending on mood--favourite manga ever (the other two being Tokyo Crazy Paradise and Saiyuki). Still hazy about how to play Go, still fascinated at the way the plot develops, still in love with the characters. Writing fics for Hikago taught me a lot about pacing, since to me that's an essential element for a series focusing on a board game that in real life takes hours to play. And how terribly important it is to have scenes of aeroplanes flying overhead, yep.

It's also a series that's made me a lot more aware of minor characters: Mitsuk, Akiko, Kadowaki, Kurata, Le Ping, An Taeson... and of course Kuwabara, who's become one of my favourite characters.

The fandom's lovely--not something you can say of many fandoms. It's not as perfect or wank-free as many like to think, but it's full of great people, and they all love Hikago. What more can one ask for?

Honest

I try to be. I want to be. I hate it when people aren't. It's one thing if you refuse to explain, or make an excuse, or handwave away stuff, but outright lying--inventing a big whopper--makes me mad.

Tho' here's the not-so-weird thing. Every single time I've ever lied--just a small white lie, mind you--I've been called on it. Maybe I give out 'LIAR' vibes whenever I do so. So I've sort of given up on being dishonest. If you ask me a question, I'm quite likely to tell you the truth right off, or if I feel I can't, I'll simply refuse to answer, instead of making something up. Possibly this means I suck at fiction writing.

Trenchant

Ahh... I don't see how it relates to me? Merriam-Webster says:

1: keen, sharp
2: vigorously effective and articulate < a trenchant analysis > ; also : caustic < trenchant remarks >
3 a: sharply perceptive : penetrating < a trenchant view of current conditions > b: clear-cut, distinct < the trenchant divisions between right and wrong — Edith Wharton >

Hm, I do wish I were keen and sharp. And perceptive (to be sharply so--hah). And while I'm sarcastic on occasion, I'd hardly describe myself as articulate or caustic. Darn.

But I do appreciate people who are. I've friended LJs just for that.

Long fic

I... love 'em? My love for long fanfics, though, is hampered by the need to stay glued to a computer screen in order to read them. Which explains my fascination with ebook devices.

Writing long fics, though... I haven't really written many long fics. Just two or three, I guess. And they weren't that long. I'd love to write more of such fics, though planning plot arcs seems to be more than what my brain is capable of.

Meta

Not capable of it... Quite a damning thing to say, considering I studied English lit and they tried to teach this to me, but it never really registered. Maybe I thought of it, in a sideways fashion in the context of fanfiction, but hardly as, say, an essay.

Maybe I'm just fanfiction-obsessed, but my reaction on reading meta is usually to wonder if it could be a fanfic.
