A friend once asked me (this was some years back): "Do you feel you're getting old sometimes?"

I thought about it, and conceded, "Yeah, my knees hurt now and then."

And then to my surprise she admonished me for "feeling old", and said that age was just a construct, or words to that effect, and that I was letting myself down by not being mentally strong, etc, etc. I forget what else.

It didn't make sense. My knees did hurt from time to time - and they creaked sometimes if I'd been crouching in the same position for too long. So I didn't see what was the reasoning behind the ranting that I was "feeling old"; what was I to say, my knees didn't hurt?

Years down the road, I definitely feel the years. I can't bounce back from a bout of flu the way I used to. Met a friend (another one) for coffee, who was shocked to see how pale I looked and how much weight I'd lost. Hm, now that she mentioned it, I did think earlier that it was pretty nice not to go into gyrations to fit into my favourite dress (since I still felt a bit raw), but was that why?

This post is yet another example of my post-fluitis.
