Finished watching Are you human too? and hated the ending. What d'you mean, Dr Laura died? The foremost AI scientist in the world, not to mention being both Shin's mum, without whom there wouldn't even be the drama's events, basically got fridged. So annoyed. I know human Nam Shim needed a massive, heartfelt shock to get his head out of his ass (and he would still be a jerk) but there must be a way to do it without going for the cheap shot of killing off his mother. I loved the ending for Kang So Bong and robot!Shin, but Dr Laura's death robbed the story. I didn't always like her but she was a really fascinating character (building a robot to look like your son?), and I was waiting for her to turn the world of robotics on its head. And now. Trying to think of a good fix-it alternate ending.

On a totally different topic... Am trying to get my head around the realisation that there is a statute of limitations for sex crimes in the USA. (And I assume other crimes too?...) You mean it's like South Korea? How/what/why even-

not ded yet.

But feeling... ugh.

The peril of downloading caselaw whilst sneakily sneaking a peak at AO3 to see if the fics I'm following have been updated is that you run the risk of accidentally downloading, say, O'Neill v Phillipps [1999] (a case all about "I'm getting oppressed here!") into your Star Trek folder rather than into your 'school' folder. Which is kind of funny.

In case anyone is interested: Magpie, AU, Star Trek reboot, WIP, by waldorph.

...I might have recced this before? Don't remember, though I usually don't rec WIPs. New chapter!

In the meantime, classmates and I have got tickets to see Waiting for Godot next month.

School is: on the good days I say to myself, "I'll finish all my reading or die trying." On the bad days, "I'll finish all my reading or else." >_<

Um, right. Finally re-remembered that I can crosspost.

Infiltrate, Sherlock/John, Sherlock, by [livejournal.com profile] ladyflowdi and [livejournal.com profile] mirrorskippy. Wherein Moriarty is, as expected, horrible. Long fic (which is why I have the AO3 link). Can't help thinking it's redundant of me to warn for death and violence and torture in this fic, given the fandom... not to mention the sex scenes. Oh well.

Also by the same writers:
a sequel The Love Song of Two Idiots, and another sequel, Speculation, which is a kidfic.

Secret Vulcan Mating Rituals, WIP, Kirk/Spock, reboot Star Trek, contains surprise Dr Who and surprise myth (I don't know enough fanon to judge whether Mormon tale equivalent has any fandom-ly basis anywhere or is the author's pure invention, sorry) but those probably shouldn't detract too much from the fic itself, by chase820

The World Book Day meme, for which I'm desperately late, but still...

The book I am reading:
Jewellery of Tibet and the Himalayas and 周汝昌传 [aka Biography of Zhou Ruchang].

The book I am writing:
It's not a book.

The book I love most:
The physical book or the work itself? If the former, it's got to be my Shorter OED for being so lovely (if so damnably heavy, both of them) to touch (smooooth, thiiin, delicate onion-skin paper) and sigh over (I don't know so many of these words!) and to read; coming close is my compact volume of 唐诗三百首 [Three hundred Tang poems] for being small enough to squeeze into the mess that is my table and also, it's extremely readable.

Also my ebook device.

If the latter, too many to name.

The last book I received as a gift:
Um... a friend gave me some cast-off textbooks once?

Sadly, I've never really received a book/books as a gift. Family and friends feel that it is unhealthy to encourage me in my sins. However, I was once given a book on Qin Shih-huang as a prize for taking part in an amateur historical production in school. Well, it was given to the entire cast, but the others rejected it in horror because it was a book, so I got it by default. Nyah nyah.

The last book I gave as a gift:
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone to my student.

The nearest book on my desk:
Other than 唐诗三百首?
楚辞 by 屈原 (aka the guy who has rice dumplings thrown in the river every fifth of fifth in his honour, so goes folklore. Famous for 离骚)

You can tell I don't own many Chinese books by the way I keep them close.

1) I need a Sherlock icon, I think? Since I've been reccing (and reading) so many Sherlock fics. Of Mycroft, maybe. But then most of the fics I've read are Sherlock and John.

2) I've been making it a point to cross-post more, even though I find it a bit of a pain... But I don't want to leave DW because people I knew in Lj migrated over and yet I have so much attachment to my LJ f-list. >_>

3) After going to the library a few times I've (finally!) concluded that I'm looking in the wrong place and there's no commercially published writing guide for writing a slashy (aka m/m) original fic that tells you how to fit in a mystery plot while ironing out the pace and tone.

4) My sister has decided that we should visit Britain. Problem? There are too many things we'd like to see, as our list of priorities sort of goes: British Museum, London, Stonehenge, Jane Austen's house, trains, castles, not to mention the 'let's visit Harry Potter film locations' squee. Right now, everything is tentative (depending on finances and time off work), but... Britain, why are you so much bigger on the inside than it appears from the outside?

Tho my travel guides (from the library) have such lovely, lovely, picturesque, um, pictures.

Watched Clash of the Titans and How to Train Your Dragon

1) Why is there a kraken in Greek myth-inspired movie?
2) I don't think Vikings, even those in movies, are supposed to have that accent...?
3) It's pathetic (and trite) when members of a questing group are picked off one by one until one person remains as the default hero.
5) Oh, Liam Neeson, don't wear armour. Especially the shiny sort.
6) 3D makes my eyes hurt. Love the effect, but ow.
7) Both have predictable plots. But why is one more enjoyable than the other?

Have not been online much. Kept running a fever and headache soon after the wisdom tooth extraction and it made me feel run-down and tired and caused me to suddenly stop writing Twice the River. But all recovered now.

My ebook is pure fun and also, a source of some awkwardness. People keep wanting to look at it and I really don't want to show them it while the text on the screen narrates a Harry and Snape sex scene. Heh.

Meme first: If you see this, post a poem in your own LJ.

I was going for a Tang poem, but spotted this and thought it a lot of fun. From here:

Foreign Objects

Hemlock is high in soluble fiber.
A self-directed bullet contains no fatty acids.
Asphyxiation eliminates 2nd-hand smoke.
Carbon Monoxide is nitrate-free.

Sleeping pills reduce the body’s need for sugar.
A blow from a sword is high in iron.
Hanging flushes the body of its toxins.
Cyanide cleanses potentially harmful resins.

Bleach cuts cholesterol levels.
Jumping simulates weightlessness.
Drowning ensures hydration.
Smoking improves eyesight.

An oncoming train is filled
With many fruits and vegetables.
Running a car into a tree reduces
The need for red meat consumption.

Also, I wish that more people were writing the March themes for 31_days. Not just because I think the themes are evocative (for me, at least; I haven't felt like that about previous months') but also um, I have sort of private agenda. You see, I've been writing and posting a Hikaru no Go/Spirited Away crossover fic there since this month started, very short updates only, and it's starting to look like I'm spamming the comm. -_-;;;

Just in case you're interested in reading a fic whose chapters are being written and posted nightly and I'm definitely forewarning, is WIP and may end up abandoned:

Title: Twice the River 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 so far.
Series: Hikaru no Go, Spirited Away.
Summary: I tried to write a Sai comes back story and it intersected with Spirited Away.

Stole a meme:

Name your 10-15 absolutely favorite couples (het/slash/canon/fanon) and ask people to see what trends they notice about your couples. Try to pick different fandoms:

2) Hikaru/Akira (Hikaru no Go)
3) Mulder/Scully (X-files)
4) Kaoru/Kenshin (Rurouni Kenshin)
5) Echizen/Momoshiro (Prince of Tennis)
6) Tsukasa/Ryuji (Tokyo Crazy Paradise)
7) Fujiwara/86 (Initial D)
8) Clark/Lex (Smallville)
9) Peabody/Emerson (Amelia Peabody books)
10) Haku/Chihiro (Spirited Away)
11) Ashitaka/San (Princess Mononoke)
12) Sanzo/Goku (Saiyuki)
13) Lee/Gaara (Naruto)
14) Tsuzuki/Touda (Yami no Matsuei)
15) Methos/McLeod (Highlander)

Other couples that I like: Hikaru/Akari, Isumi/Le Ping, Atobe/Jirou, Fujiwara/Ryousuke... I like Harry/Draco and Harry/Snape equally, tho' if someone can find me Harry/Draco/Ron that would be Just Fine.

Came across this Malaysian retailer/trading co? that sells the Hanlin ebook. Read a review that says it uses a Nokia battery. I'm weirdly charmed by this. Maybe because I own a Nokia battery (well, two) and it's like I already own part of an ebook! (It made sense in my head...)
