May. 14th, 2011 12:25 amIt always cracks me up inside:
Whenever my other boss wants to tell me that a student has cancelled a class, he says, "Luce-san, _______-san CANNOT come tomorrow," and then makes the Ultraman gesture (crossed forearms in front of his face).
(I just reply, "Okay.")

There's a Dreamwidth meme, where myflist reading list is posting day by day. To save myself the hassle, here's mine for all 21 days.
1. Why did you sign up for Dreamwidth?
People on my LJ f-list talking about it, it seemed interesting, it was free, so. I may get myself a paid account yet. (I need to use DW more to justify spending money on it.)
2. Why did you choose your journal name?
That's the fancy title part rather than say,
issenllo?
Frankly, it languished with some blah name for ages; even now that I have named it with something I personally like, I still need to think for a moment to recall exactly what it is. I didn't want to give it the same name as my LJ as I hate to be repetitive.
Anyway, I came across this poem on
read_poetry on LJ and loved it, particularly the line about the bird. So.
3. Do you crosspost? Why or why not?
Yes. Because I've got to post on DW or what's the point of getting an account here?
4. What do you do online when you're not on DW?
Check out books, Ravelry (and knitting websites), email, fanfic archives like ff.net.
5. How about when you're not on the computer?
Real life happens.
6. What do you wish people who read your journal knew about you?
That I'm not from the USA (and I hate posts that assume the rest of the people on DW are). Actually, I wish they didn't know I'm of Chinese descent and live in Asia, but I think since I've accidentally/purposely made references to that information in a couple of posts - and I belong to communities like
fen_at_sea, etc., that ship has... hm, no point standing out here at the pier.
Not that I regret saying so or am ashamed, mind; in some contexts I'm more than happy to admit it (like in this post) but coming from a fandom perspective, I really do prefer being judged on my posts and fics.
7. What is your favorite community on Dreamwidth?
None. It's a terrible thing to admit. The thing is, I don't spend a lot of time on DW because my reading list is rather small, and because my reading list is small, I don't spend a lot... yeah.
This is definitely a sign that I need to explore DW more.
8. What community do you wish was more active?
...
fen_at_sea? I think if it's more active, it'd reconcile me to having my ethnicity "exposed", as it were.
I should say
hikarunogo but of late I'm been very inactive in the fandom.
9. Are there two people on your reading list that you think should meet?
I have no idea.
10. Tell me about your default icon.
It's the same icon I have on LJ, which I kept for easy identification.
11. What features do you think Dreamwidth should have that it doesn't currently?
More journal styles? Because I have one icon that I use nearly all the time, I can't stand journal styles that plant the icon on every single post. (Okay for reading list, though.) I end up with a webpage that looks like I wallpapered my icon all over. It's overpowering.
Also... I'd love to have a lite version of the paid journal. For people like me who post about once a week, don't comment a lot, and don't require many icons. (Another sticking point with paying for a DW journal is getting dozens of icon slots I have zero use for.) If that were possible, I'd be happy to pay if only for the privilege of amending comments (you can amend comments as a paid user on DW, right?).
Otherwise I find DW very nice indeed.
12. What do you consider the five most "telling" interests from the list on your profile? Why?
Fanfiction: my sole motivation for being online.
John King Fairbank: I fangirl him like mad.
Knitting: my de-stresser and incidentally taking up a lot of posting/fic-writing time. Can't type and knit at the same time.
Jay Chou: I think I'm totally dating myself by admitting to this.
Hikaru no Go: speaks for itself.
13. Do you have any unique interests on your user profile? What are they? How'd they get there?
I wouldn't say they're that unique, but: erhu, guzheng, guqin: instruments I play (or used to).
14. Did you have a gateway fandom? Still in it? Why or why not? Is there a community for it on DW?
Gundam Wing. Or was it Tokyo Babylon? Can't recall. Still in GW, out of TB.
15. What's your current obsession? What about it captures your imagination?
Sherlock. Weirdly enough, Mycroft. The presence of Mycroft in the BBC series made it 100% better and yet to be contrary I read mostly fics about Sherlock and John.
16. What are you glad you did but haven't really had a chance to post about?
I finished knitting a pair of gloves for my mother for Mother's Day! Yay!
17. How many people on your reading list do you know IRL?
Just
februaryfour
18. What don't you talk about here, either because it's too personal or because you don't have the energy?
Mostly RL. Fic concrit, which I think but don't say. My thoughts about yaoi.
19. Any questions from the audience?
I don't understand this question.
20. Yes, but what are your thoughts on yaoi?
*Like*
21. What's your favorite thing about Dreamwidth?
It's red. Red and pink.
Whenever my other boss wants to tell me that a student has cancelled a class, he says, "Luce-san, _______-san CANNOT come tomorrow," and then makes the Ultraman gesture (crossed forearms in front of his face).

Date: 2011-05-21 02:44 pm (UTC)I've never thought about it because usually at the times when I'm writing, my sister (who shares my room) is already asleep, and also I like listening to music when I write. Tho I could try it, I suppose.
