Had some time and crossposted some of my old fics to AO3 account.
I also added a new fic I wrote for the most recent round of Blind_Go, Attention to Go Players, which had a genderswap theme.
I hadn't done Blind_Go in ages, and I was about to give this round a pass too, only I went to bed thinking "ok, which genderswapped character would I like to write about?" and woke up with "!!!" Somehow my subconscious had dreamt up an entire scenario for me, and my main exertion was writing it out.
For BG 16, I did remember very clearly that I didn't want to do a genderswap fic (if I did do a genderswap fic) that was about a romantic relationship. Or even peer friendships that now have added romantic angst because someone became a different gender or sexual orientation from the canon version. Mainly because I was thinking that gender identity doesn't just affect a person's romantic and sexual inclinations/experiences/interactions or what have you. It affects your standing in society, which in turns affects a lot of career and bread and butter issues in one's life.
Especially in a society like Japan in which a person's societal roles have a tendency to be somewhat rigid just based on your sex and gender. So I wrote about Touya Kouyo being a woman, instead. It's a strange thing to imagine: the more I thought about it, the more I found myself thinking: "This might mean Touya Kouyo can't be a professional Go player, because how is she going to make a career in such a male-dominated world? Or it might mean that she doesn't give birth to Akira." Much of the fic was spent trying to accommodate that.
