Challenge #2

In your own space, talk about your fannish history.

Oh where to start. )

Challenge #4

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

Fannish: Finish my WIPs...

Non-fannish: (1) Make the Filmy Fern Shawl except with a different edging; I hate short-rows so much.

(2) Write original fic. This is hard because original fic is so different from fanfic, and what's more, I usually write m/m pairings (if it is romantic) and I still feel like I need to lead in with preamble about a person's character and sexuality before I can even describe a pairing, and that's exactly the kind of justification I hate in fanfics. ETA: The great thing about fanfics is that we all know that however strongly RL-tinged, it is still set in the canon-verse and is one (more) step removed from RL. Whereas original fic don't have that... cushioning.

Well, better late than never, I suppose *meditative*

It's nearly my bedtime (1am) so here goes:

Challenge #1

In your own space, introduce yourself!

I started out in fandom with a couple of names which I still (sort of) go interchangeably by: mostly I'm Issen now but I've appeared here and there as Luce.

So, hi!

I've been in fandom since just before university, and oh dear sweet gods I still remember the utter addictiveness of every one of CLAMP's creations in the 1990s. Except for that Alice in Wonderland thing, which I never got into. So I entered university basically with my head in clouds with a crush on Subaru/Seishirou and an (abashed) attitude of "so it's gay AND slash, so what?" which has served me well through the ages in confrontations with bigots.

That's probably why I switched from pre-journalism to English in uni, somewhat to my detriment career-wise (since I can't hack academia and must seek a salaryman's position) but otherwise quite satisfying.

By that admission you would think that I would name books and libraries as my loves, but I only like books and I sort of hate public libraries because the air-con is always too strong in them and I can never read properly in them. I also adore cats but I don't have one as I live on the 8th floor of my building and my windows are always open (I live in the tropics; it's a must) and until I've solved the problem of kitties climbing out of windows I can't. They tell me cat mesh but it's ugly and also, the open-window part is affected.

I also love run-on sentences, though I try not to. And putting stuff in parenthesis.

Earlier last decade I went to law school which frankly destroyed all desire to read books and I ended up only reading fanfic now and then. Job-wise there has been an improvement so I can now buy the yarn I wish to knit and the books I wish to read (more of the former and less of the latter) whenever I want. Still lots of fanfic though.

Other things about me: I'm of Chinese origin, though almost everyone who meets me doubts that, purely on appearance (and probably an affront to my parents, heh). I have long hair which I cut myself (some penny-pinching habits never leave you). I speak some Mandarin and read a little Chinese, and by 'little' I mean at the level of the stuff that they teach to primary kids in China but I persist? My marital/romantic status is of no one's concern except mine. I try to be cynical and creative, but I'm actually quite conventional and shy - shyness not being the same thing as being timid (or is it the other way around?).

That's it. I've said a lot. Hm.
