Yuletide letter
Oct. 8th, 2017 11:51 pmI honestly can't remember if I am eligible for Yuletide this year.
ETA: I am!
Dear Yuletide writer
Thank you very much for taking the time to write a fic for me. Please take my rambling thoughts below as inspiration and not as requirements cast in stone.
I am not keen on gratuitous violence, exploitative power relationships/interactions and explicit sex scenes, but overall it depends on the fic and what is required.
Nirvana in Fire
I have a love-hate reaction to NIF relationship fics. On the one hand, I like the m/m relationship between Jingyan and Mei Changsu aka Lin Shu and would love to read lots of fics (and do). But there is also so much more to explore with the rest of characters. I love how NIF is a mix-up of wuxia and court intrigue. I love the female characters, even those that only appeared for a few episodes, like Junniang, Tong Lu's lady love; and Xia Jiang's estranged wife.
So I guess if possible, I would like to know how Lin Shu (and Jingyan) grew up with all the females in their lives - not just Nihuang, but their mothers and others, like Xia Dong, even Great-Grandma. Other than that, I'm intrigued by the boys' childhood: how they became playmates, even those doomed scenes of playing with the emperor.
Goblin: The Lonely and Great God
The K-drama that ate my life last December. There are no words to describe how much I love this. I freely admit that it's not without flaws, but even those flaws looked pretty great to me. Part of it is probably the idea of having new and modernised mythology to play with, especially mythology that came in such swoonworthy packages. ^__^
For fics, I would love to read more about Kim Shin's divinity, so as to speak. How does he use his powers (for good), and how he deals with being in love with a young, very mortal girl? Or maybe a lighthearted (or angsty) fic about Kim Shin and Ji Eun-tak going on a date - either before or after the sword thing - perhaps with an aside of helping people and/or making the Reaper jealous.
Goblin fic is the only place where I really would not like to see any m/m relationship between the main characters, because Kim Shin and Wang Yeo seemed so much in love with their partners that I'd love for those fantasies to remain.
Tokyo Babylon
This canon is just full of bad things that I'd ordinarily do not want: graphic (hah) violence, exploitative relationships, angst upon angst, to say the least of it. But it's like TB just makes these things seemed - not logical - but unobjectionable, because the main characters are already so fucked up in the mind that one more extreme doesn't change things much and in fact blends into the landscape.
So instead of asking for a before-fic, I would like an after-fic. What happens in future? Subaru training another Sumeragi heir, perhaps, or even a Sakurazukamori successor (but without the idiotic killing-your-teacher ritual) and unconsciously mimicking Seishirou or rejecting anything that has to to with Seishirou, but either way revealing how much Seishirou still lingers in his mind. Or perhaps Subaru throwing his hands in the air and declaring that Japan can take care of its own spiritual health, thank you, without needing the Sumeragis.
Thank you again for writing for me!
